**Kollam, September 12, 2024:** Joint inspections conducted by various departments in Kollam district revealed widespread irregularities in the Onam market.

Officials from the Food and Civil Supplies department found multiple violations, including the lack of price lists, delayed bill issuance, hoarding, black marketeering, and overcharging. The Legal Metrology department uncovered discrepancies in weighing scales, packaging labels, and short weights of goods. Meanwhile, the Food Safety department identified hygiene issues in hotels and fruit and vegetable markets.

Since September 5, a total of 16 cases have been registered for various violations, including the non-display of price lists. The Food Safety department filed six cases after 53 inspections, and the Legal Metrology department identified 12 irregularities.

During a particular inspection led by the Karunagapally taluk supply officer, 6,430 kg of foodgrains and cooking gas cylinders were seized from two locations in Kulasekharapuram panchayat due to a lack of proper documentation.

The district supply officer has stated that the inspections will be intensified in the coming days. The goal of these efforts is to ensure fair pricing, accurate weighing, and safe and hygienic conditions for consumers during the Onam festival.
