Numurkah resident Coby Eddy, a 21-year-old gym worker and photographer, has launched a Facebook page called “Hometown Heroes” to showcase the positive stories of people in his community. Inspired by the popular “Humans of New York” project, Eddy’s photoblog highlights individuals doing good things, working towards their goals, and making a difference.

Eddy’s initiative is a direct response to the negativity often associated with young people. He says, “It’s an opportunity to prove people wrong. It’s a driving force almost as well to show that [if] there’s so much negativity in the world, I can be the person that’s bringing that positivity and showing that it’s not just negativity.”

“Hometown Heroes” has featured a variety of individuals, including Jai Smith, a VFL umpire and aspiring AFL umpire, who has received encouragement and support from people who saw his story on the page. Ami Pathak, a spiritual healer, and her husband Marty Banning, a drummer and gardener, have also been featured, sharing their experiences of overcoming challenges and contributing to the community.

The project has resonated with people in the region, with many reaching out to Eddy to share their own stories and be featured. Pathak, who found her story on the page empowering, says, “As a community, we should be encouraging people to come together and promote projects like this. Together we can create a world filled with positive stories, kindness and compassion.”

Eddy’s “Hometown Heroes” is a testament to the power of social media to celebrate good deeds and inspire others. It highlights the importance of focusing on the positive and fostering a sense of community through shared stories and experiences.
