**MANILA** – The Philippine Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is investigating the alleged robbery and sexual assault of a Vietnamese woman who booked a ride through Grab Holdings Ltd. The incident, which occurred on September 5, has prompted the LTFRB to consider suspending Grab’s operations in the country for at least 30 days if found negligent.
The victim, who was traveling in Manila, was reportedly surprised when the Grab driver allowed another passenger into the car. The passenger then stole 35,000 pesos (S$815) and her mobile phone before assaulting her in the vehicle.
Police have apprehended the driver in the neighboring Laguna province. The driver has been banned from the Grab platform, and the company has emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards any misconduct.
Grab is cooperating with the LTFRB’s investigation and has pledged to work with the police to ensure passenger safety.
LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz urged the public to exercise caution when using ride-hailing apps. He recommended verifying driver identities, sharing trip details with trusted contacts, and maintaining awareness throughout the journey to safeguard personal security.
