**Glen Innes, NSW** – A veteran Gold Coast police officer, Senior Sergeant Brendan Wiblen, has tragically died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash while participating in the annual Wall to Wall Ride for Remembrance. The ride, held in honour of fallen police officers, was travelling from Brisbane to Canberra.
The crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:20pm on the Gwydir Highway near Glen Innes. Senior Sergeant Wiblen, 58, lost control while attempting to overtake another rider and went down an embankment. Members of the public administered CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived, but he sadly died at the scene.
Senior Sergeant Wiblen had a distinguished 27-year career with the Queensland Police Service (QPS), holding roles such as Officer in Charge at Southport Station. He was widely respected by his colleagues for his dedication and commitment to his work.
The Queensland Police Commissioner, Steve Gollschewski, expressed his deepest condolences to Senior Sergeant Wiblen’s family, friends, and colleagues. He described the loss as “absolutely devastating” and a heartbreak for the entire QPS, particularly for those who worked closely with him on the Gold Coast.
The Queensland Premier, Steven Miles, and Police Minister, Mark Ryan, also offered their condolences and expressed their shock and grief at the loss of a dedicated officer.
The Queensland Police Union President, Shane Prior, who was also on the memorial ride, said the loss was deeply felt across the state and expressed condolences to Senior Sergeant Wiblen’s family.
NSW Police are currently investigating the crash. A report will be prepared for the NSW coroner.
