**MANILA, PHILIPPINES** – The NCAA Season 100 matchup between Mapua and Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) featured a unique twist as former University of the East (UE) teammates Clint Escamis and Harvey Pagsanjan faced each other for the first time since departing the Red Warriors.
The two guards, who now play for different teams, shared a lighthearted rivalry on the court, with Escamis and the Cardinals ultimately emerging victorious, 69-66. Despite the win, both players expressed mutual respect and a deep bond forged during their time at UE.
“It feels so good to play against him now,” said Pagsanjan after the game. “We struggled and didn’t know much about ourselves back then. Now, we’re both reunited with our old coaches, and it’s nice to finally get to do what we always wanted to do.”
Escamis echoed Pagsanjan’s sentiments, stating, “It’s really nice to face him in his new home at EAC. I’m happy he fit in the system and played great earlier.”
The two players traded baskets and playful banter throughout the game, showcasing their competitive spirit and camaraderie. Pagsanjan led EAC with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Escamis contributed a well-rounded performance with 10 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.
“We scored on each other earlier and there were some playful banters,” Escamis said. “I’ll message him later to make him remember that I scored on him.”
Pagsanjan laughed off the teasing, confirming the strong bond he shares with his former teammate. “There were lots of trash talks but that’s just inside the court,” he said. “Outside, Clint is really like my brother.”
The game served as a reminder of the enduring friendships forged in the world of basketball, even as players embark on new journeys with different teams. The former UE teammates, now rivals, proved that competition can coexist with mutual respect and a shared history.
