Thu Sep 12 00:22:20 UTC 2024: ## Eminem Relives 2000 VMAs Magic, Opens 2024 Show with Nostalgic Performance

**New York, NY** – Eminem kicked off the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with a nostalgic blast from the past, recreating his iconic 2000 performance. The legendary rapper, nominated for eight awards this year, brought out a legion of “Slim Shady” clones to perform his classic hits, “Houdini” and “Somebody Save Me,” from the album *The Slim Shady LP*.

The performance mirrored his 2000 debut, where Eminem stormed the stage with dozens of duplicates to perform “The Real Slim Shady.” While not physically present, Tennessee singer Jelly Roll appeared on-screen during the performance, further amplifying the throwback vibes.

The opening act set the tone for an evening filled with nods to the VMAs’ illustrious history, seemingly addressing skeptics questioning the show’s continued relevance after 40 years. Eminem, who is vying for the record for most MTV Video Music Awards won by a single act, could potentially add to his trophy collection with nominations for Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, Best Direction, and Best Visual Effects for “Houdini.” His original performance of “The Real Slim Shady”/”The Way I Am” is also nominated for VMAs Most Iconic Performance.
