Thu Sep 12 00:47:38 UTC 2024: ## Eminem Returns to the VMAs with a Knockout Performance

Eminem, the hip-hop icon, kicked off the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards in New York with a high-energy performance of “Houdini” and “Somebody Save Me,” his first televised performance in support of his new album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).”

The 51-year-old rapper, sporting a platinum blonde wig and flanked by Eminem lookalikes, harked back to his 2000 VMAs performance of “The Real Slim Shady.” He later switched to a black cap for a heartfelt rendition of “Somebody Save Me,” which features references to his daughter, Hailie Jade.

Eminem, nominated for eight awards this year, including Video of the Year, has a long history with the VMAs, dating back to 1999 when he won Best New Artist. He has since accumulated 67 nominations, second only to Madonna, and 13 wins. He holds the record for most Moon Persons among rap artists and is tied with Peter Gabriel for the most Moon Persons among all male artists.

His last VMAs appearance was in 2022 with Snoop Dogg. In 2010, he opened the ceremony with “Not Afraid” and performed a duet of “Love the Way You Lie” with Rihanna.

Other big names slated to perform include Megan Thee Stallion, who also hosts the show, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Lenny Kravitz, and Shawn Mendes. Katy Perry will perform a medley of hits before receiving the prestigious Video Vanguard Award.
