Thu Sep 12 00:59:20 UTC 2024: ## NextHome Reaches Settlement in Commission Lawsuit, Following NAR’s New Rules

**New York, NY** – NextHome, a real estate franchisor with over 600 offices nationwide, has reached a settlement in a commission lawsuit, just weeks after the National Association of Realtors (NAR) implemented new rules aimed at addressing similar concerns.

The settlement, disclosed in a brief court filing, comes as part of the “Gibson” case, a lawsuit filed in the wake of a jury verdict in a similar case last October. While the filing confirms the agreement, it doesn’t specify the financial terms or any changes NextHome has committed to making in its business practices.

NextHome’s CEO, James Dwiggins, has been a prominent figure in the ongoing commission litigation debate, offering outspoken commentary and insights. Dwiggins has often urged industry leaders to embrace change and move away from traditional models, arguing against workarounds for commission sharing.

The settlement follows a similar agreement reached last week between Florida-based brokerage The Keyes Company and the plaintiffs in the Gibson case.

The recent surge in commission lawsuits has spurred the NAR to introduce new rules, effective last month, aimed at addressing concerns raised by the lawsuits. These rules, among other things, prohibit sellers’ agents from offering compensation to buyers’ agents within NAR-affiliated multiple listing services (MLS).

NextHome has declined to comment on the settlement.

This settlement highlights the ongoing impact of the commission lawsuit landscape on the real estate industry and underscores the need for adaptation and change in a rapidly evolving market.
