**Bengaluru, September 12, 2024:** All-rounder Shams Mulani’s impressive 88 not out, including a half-century, guided India A to a respectable 288/8 on day one of their Duleep Trophy encounter against India D here on Thursday.
India A faced a perilous start, losing five wickets for just 93 runs in the first session. However, Mulani, playing against the spin well, formed a crucial 91-run partnership with Tanush Kotian (53) to rescue the innings.
Mulani, primarily known for his spin bowling, displayed impressive hitting, smashing eight fours and three sixes in his unbeaten knock. He reached his fifty with a towering six off Saurabh Kumar.
Earlier, India D’s bowlers made early inroads, with Vidwath Kaverappa (2/30) dismissing captain Mayank Agarwal (7) and Pratham Singh (7) in the morning session. Riyan Parag (37) showcased some elegant strokeplay but didn’t last long enough.
Harshit Rana (2/49) and Arshdeep Singh (2/73) also picked up crucial wickets for India D. However, Mulani’s unbeaten effort proved decisive as India A managed to end the day on a strong note.
India A will be looking to build on this foundation and attempt to post a mammoth score on day two.
