Thu Sep 12 18:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Enid Schools Remain Open After Threats Deemed Not Credible

**ENID, Okla.** – Enid Public Schools (EPS) held classes as scheduled on Thursday, September 12, 2024, after authorities determined threats of violence at middle schools were not credible.

The threats, which were initially circulated on social media, prompted EPS to increase security measures at all schools as a precaution. Emergency services were notified and deemed the threats unfounded.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the district increased security at schools for the day and the school day will proceed as normal,” EPS officials stated in a social media post.

Enid Police Department (EPD) also addressed the situation, confirming extra officers were deployed to Emerson, Waller, and Longfellow Middle Schools. EPD is currently investigating the source of the threats.

Similar threats were reported at other schools in southeastern Oklahoma and across the country. Schools in Colbert, Achille, Hugo, and Durant, Oklahoma, were affected, with Colbert closing and Achille shifting to virtual learning. Hugo and Durant schools also increased security.

Multiple school districts in Texas, including Arlington, Fort Worth, DeSoto, Irving, Waxahachie, and Kemp, reported receiving threats this week.
