Actress Aubrey Plaza, known for her roles in “White Lotus” and “Parks & Recreation,” has shared a startling revelation about her health. During an appearance on the “Howard Stern Show,” the 40-year-old actress disclosed that she experienced a stroke at the young age of 20.
Plaza described the incident as “wild,” recalling that it happened “mid-sentence” while entering her friends’ apartment in Queens. She experienced paralysis, a loss of motor skills, and temporarily lost the ability to speak. Though the paralysis lasted only a minute, the inability to communicate was particularly unsettling.
It was only when a doctor asked Plaza to differentiate between her left and right sides, and she was unable to do so, that a stroke was suspected. Plaza also revealed that paramedics initially questioned if she had taken drugs, which she denied. She later attributed the stroke to her birth control medication.
Since the initial incident, Plaza has experienced “minor…tiny little strokes,” also known as transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). This highlights the importance of recognizing the potential for stroke, even in young individuals.
