Thu Sep 12 16:59:33 UTC 2024: ## Mamata Banerjee Offers to Resign Over Kolkata Doctor Strike, Accuses Doctors of Seeking “Chairs” Not Justice

**Kolkata:** West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday offered to resign, stating that she is more concerned about justice for the people than holding onto her post. This comes amidst an ongoing strike by doctors in Kolkata, protesting against the alleged assault of a doctor by a patient’s relative.

The government has been attempting to negotiate with the striking doctors, but Thursday’s meeting failed to yield any results. The doctors boycotted the meeting after the government refused their demand for live streaming of the session. The number of participating doctors was also reduced from 30 to 15, further angering the medical professionals.

CM Banerjee waited for two hours at the Nabanna conference hall for the doctors, but they did not appear. In a press conference, she accused the doctors of prioritizing “chairs” over justice for the people. “People came seeking justice, but I hope they can understand that they want chairs, not justice,” she said. “I am ready to resign for the people. I don’t need this CM post, I want justice and treatment for the common people.”

The strike continues, leaving many patients in a precarious situation. The ongoing stand-off between the government and the doctors has raised concerns about the future of healthcare in the state.
