**Kaieteur, Guyana –** Latoya Williams, a rising star in Guyana’s national U19 cricket team and reigning West Indies Regional Blaze T20 champion, has set her sights on a future in the Windies Women’s team. Driven by a desire to inspire other young Amerindian women, Williams is determined to reach the pinnacle of cricket while serving as a role model.
Williams, who also excels in football, played a crucial role in Guyana’s T20 Blaze Cup victory this year, showcasing her skills with both bat and ball. Despite facing challenges in her rural village, where a hard-ball cricket pitch is unavailable, Williams has dedicated herself to training and improving her game. She currently works as a teacher while maintaining her fitness regime, crediting cricket for instilling discipline and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Williams’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) have recognized the need to develop women’s cricket in rural areas, with plans to support and nurture talent like Williams.
“My plans and goals are to make the West Indies team, while playing cricket at the highest level and hopefully inspire other young female players, especially my fellow Amerindians, to do the same,” Williams stated.
