**Winchester, VA** – Shenandoah University held a solemn commemoration ceremony on Wednesday, September 11th, to mark the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The event, held in the Sarah’s Glen area of the campus, featured a variety of tributes and reflections.

The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem by Darius Elmore, followed by a moving rendition of “Taps” by Charles Hunter of the VFW Post 2123 Honor Guard.

Logan Williams, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and president of the Shenandoah Veterans and Supporters, read a chronology of events from September 11, 2001, reminding attendees of the tragic events that unfolded that day.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Fritz Polite, a U.S. Army veteran and Shenandoah University’s Associate Vice President for Student Leadership and Development. Dr. Polite’s speech focused on the impact of the attacks and the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by those who lost their lives and those who served in the aftermath.

The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence to honor the victims and the heroes of 9/11. The event served as a poignant reminder of the resilience and unity of the American people in the face of tragedy.
