**New Delhi, India** – In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which claimed over 7 million lives globally and over half a million in India, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of future health threats. Anticipating this, NITI Aayog, a government think tank, has released a comprehensive report outlining a rapid response system for public health emergencies and pandemics.

Titled “Future Pandemic Preparedness and Emergency Response – A Framework for Action,” the report was developed by an expert group and draws heavily on lessons learned from the COVID-19 response. The report, compiled through consultations with over 60 experts and stakeholders, outlines a detailed roadmap for preparedness and implementation. It proposes a framework to track, test, treat, and manage outbreaks, highlighting key steps for an efficient response.

The blueprint focuses on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing challenges and gaps in the existing system. The expert group identified best practices and key learnings from both successful and challenging aspects of the pandemic response, enabling the development of a more efficient and effective system for future crises.
