**Toronto, Canada** – Francisco Lindor ended Bowden Francis’ bid for a no-hitter with a leadoff homer in the ninth inning, sparking a six-run outburst that propelled the New York Mets to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.

Francis, who had previously lost a no-hitter on a leadoff homer in the ninth inning on August 24th, was on the verge of history before Lindor’s 31st homer of the season. The right-hander had pitched eight-plus dominant innings, allowing just one walk and striking out one batter.

The Mets’ rally continued after Lindor’s homer. Chad Green, who replaced Francis, allowed the first three batters to reach before Pete Alonso’s sacrifice fly gave the Mets a 2-1 lead. J.D. Martinez walked, and Starling Marte plated Eddy Alvarez with a flyout to chase Green from the game.

Francisco Alvarez then added a three-run homer, his seventh of the season, in the ninth, propelling the Mets ahead 6-1.

Sean Manaea, the Mets’ starting pitcher, allowed one run, three hits, and four walks with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. The Blue Jays’ lone run came in the fourth inning on Davis Schneider’s fielder’s choice grounder.

Danny Young earned the win, while Ryne Stanek allowed a run in the ninth for Toronto. Edwin Diaz closed out the game for his 18th save.

The victory gives the Mets a series win over the Blue Jays, improving their record to 80-66. The Blue Jays fall to 69-78.
