Southampton, England – Liam Livingstone, the England all-rounder, has declared he is embarking on a “new career” after battling more than two years of injury woes. The 31-year-old returned from ankle ligament damage to play a key role in England’s 2022 T20 World Cup triumph, but subsequent injuries, including a knee injury in his lone Test appearance in Pakistan, have hampered his progress.

Despite being omitted from England’s current ODI squad, Livingstone remains a crucial part of the ongoing T20 series against Australia. He showcased his all-round abilities in Wednesday’s series opener in Southampton, taking 3-22 with the ball and scoring a rapid 37 off 27 balls, although his efforts were not enough to secure victory.

“I feel like a little kid again, I feel like I’m starting a new career to be honest,” Livingstone said. “Life with niggles is not very fun. Mentally, it feels really nice to be back playing cricket pain-free.”

The all-rounder believes that returning to peak form will make him an asset to any team. “I’m back playing cricket with a smile on my face, that’s when I play at my best. Fingers crossed it stays that way for a while.”

Livingstone, known for his powerful hitting and ability to finish matches, has been promoted to the top four in the T20 series. “Series like these where you get an opportunity further up the order, it’s a chance for me to stake my claim,” he said.

While hoping for a return to the ODI team, Livingstone remains focused on the present. “I guess winning games of T20 cricket for England may enhance my chances of getting back into the one-day team. But it is what it is, I’m 31, I’m not going to sit here and cry about not being picked.”
