Katy Perry ignited the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards stage with a high-energy medley of her biggest hits, including “Dark Horse,” “E.T.,” “Firework,” and “Teenage Dream.” The pop icon, dressed in a dazzling costume and accompanied by a dazzling light show and floating butterflies, descended from the ceiling in butterfly wings to the delight of the crowd.
The performance also included the live debut of Perry’s upcoming collaboration “I’m His, He’s Mine” with Doechii, set to release on Friday, September 13th, as part of her forthcoming album “143.”
Later, accepting the prestigious Video Vanguard Award, Perry revealed she powered through the entire performance on the first day of her period. “I did that all on the first day of my period and couldn’t believe it,” she shared with the audience, emphasizing her gratitude towards MTV for supporting her unique style from the start.
“There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist,” Perry said, highlighting the crucial role her team, management, and label played in her success. “It takes a village of strong people, a lot of healthy discourse and a lot of group chats,” she added.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Perry thanked her fiancé Orlando Bloom and their daughter Daisy Dove, before advising aspiring artists to follow their hearts and ignore external noise.
