Thu Sep 12 04:36:00 UTC 2024: ## JPJ Seizes 21 Luxury Vehicles for Illegal Taxi Services in Klang Valley

**Shah Alam, September 12:** The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has cracked down on illegal taxi services in the Klang Valley, seizing 21 luxury MPVs and issuing 21 summonses to their owners and drivers. The operation, dubbed “Ops Khas Kenderaan Sapu,” targeted touts and illegal taxi drivers operating near popular hotels and tourist spots.

The crackdown came after numerous complaints from tourists, including a case where a tourist was charged S$300 (RM993) for a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, a trip that should have cost around RM300.

JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli stated, “We are clamping down on such illegal activities as it tarnishes the country’s image.” He highlighted that this was the first time JPJ conducted such operations at hotels and tourist spots, as they usually focus on airports.

The operation, conducted between September 2 and 6, involved the inspection of 35 vehicles, resulting in the seizure of 21. The vehicle owners and drivers face fines ranging from RM1,000 to RM10,000 or a two-year jail sentence if found guilty.

Aedy Fadly acknowledged the existence of a third-party network supporting these illegal services. To combat this issue, JPJ is collaborating with relevant tourism authorities to improve enforcement.

The special operations are set to be expanded nationwide to ensure Malaysia’s image as a tourist destination remains positive.
