**Karachi, Pakistan:** The Sindh government is pushing forward with plans to introduce electric taxis, with senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon meeting with representatives from Chinese automakers GAC and Dewan Motors to discuss the initiative.
Memon, accompanied by Sindh Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, met with Dewan Yousuf Farooqui and GAC representatives, including General Manager Zhu Song. During the meeting, GAC presented a detailed overview of their electric vehicles, exploring potential options for implementing electric taxis in the province.
Memon assured full government support for the project, emphasizing the province’s commitment to providing necessary infrastructure, such as charging stations, and streamlined regulatory processes.
“This initiative will not only offer safe and modern transportation for our citizens but also help reduce carbon emissions, contributing to environmental protection,” Memon stated. He also highlighted the project’s potential to create new employment opportunities in the region.
The Sindh government is also planning to launch a dedicated “pink taxi” service for women passengers, ensuring safe and reliable transport for female commuters.
The government aims to roll out the electric taxi service as soon as possible, offering citizens cutting-edge, eco-friendly travel options.
