Tue Sep 10 23:19:04 UTC 2024: ## US Imposes Sanctions on Iran and Russia for Missile Deal
**Washington, D.C.** – The US has announced new sanctions against individuals and entities in Iran and Russia involved in the transfer of ballistic missiles from Tehran to Moscow. The White House confirmed the sanctions on Tuesday, stating that they are a response to Iran’s provision of missiles to Russia, which is expected to utilize them in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The sanctions include restrictions on Iranian airline, Iran Air, prohibiting its commercial flights to British and continental European destinations. The US has also imposed restrictions on individuals and entities linked to the missile transfer, seeking to deter further cooperation between the two nations.
According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Russia has already received ballistic missiles from Iran and is expected to deploy them in Ukraine within weeks. These missiles, with a range of approximately 75 miles, will allow Russia to conserve its longer-range missiles for targets farther from the front line, while utilizing the Iranian-supplied missiles for closer-range engagements.
John Kirby, the White House National Security spokesperson, voiced concerns about the potential for Iran to gain access to Russian technology, including in the nuclear field, as a consequence of the missile deal. He emphasized that the sanctions are intended to demonstrate the economic consequences for Iran’s actions and warned that the US will implement additional measures if necessary.
