Mon Sep 09 16:13:30 UTC 2024: ## Trump’s Podcast Tour Targets Young Voters, While Harris Struggles with Media Appearances

**WASHINGTON, D.C.** – The 2024 presidential campaign is heating up, with both candidates employing different strategies to reach voters. While Vice President Kamala Harris has faced criticism for her limited media appearances, Republican nominee Donald Trump is using podcasts to connect with a younger audience.

“The View” co-host Sara Haines noted that Trump is participating in a “podcast tour,” appearing on platforms popular with young people who often avoid traditional media outlets. According to Haines, this strategy could have a positive impact on Trump’s campaign, as it demonstrates a willingness to engage with a demographic that may be less familiar with his policies.

“He’s on a podcast tour, like with some pretty crazy people,” Haines said, referring to the unconventional nature of some of the podcasts. “But the reach of these podcasts is massive. They’re getting millions of hits… he is hitting them all and they’re talking about what you’d expect from him, nothing. But the important point is here is that those people who are watching are mostly geared toward young people, so they’re not watching CNN, Fox, The View. They’re on podcasts.”

Haines believes that even if these young listeners don’t agree with Trump’s views, his presence on these platforms demonstrates a commitment to engaging with them. “Whether they agree or not, because these aren’t political podcasts, so this isn’t like a conservative group of people, they’re seeing that he cares enough to show up and be there, and I think it’s having an effect somewhat with these young people,” she said.

Trump has appeared on podcasts such as comedian Theo Von’s, which garnered 13 million views, and computer scientist Lex Fridman’s, which received 4.7 million views.

Meanwhile, Harris has been criticized for her lack of media appearances, with some observers suggesting it could hinder her campaign. “The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that Harris needs to participate in more interviews to connect with voters.

“I would encourage the vice president, she’s busy, do more interviews. Voters need to hear more from her, they want to know more. 28% of voters said they feel like they need to learn a little bit more about her and her policies. Come on ‘The View,’ go on CNN, do local press. That matters,” Griffin said.

Harris’ campaign has defended her limited media presence, citing her busy schedule and preparations for the upcoming debate. While Harris did participate in a pre-taped interview with CNN, she has not held a press conference in recent months. Trump, in contrast, held two press conferences in August, taking questions from a wide range of media outlets.

The contrasting strategies employed by Trump and Harris highlight the challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving media landscape in the 2024 presidential race. It remains to be seen whether Trump’s podcast tour will resonate with young voters, and whether Harris’ limited media presence will ultimately hurt her campaign.
