Mon Sep 09 16:13:38 UTC 2024: ## Airlines Caught in the Act: Hidden Fees Explode, Leaving Passengers Feeling Cheated

A new report from NetVoucherCodes reveals the staggering extent of hidden fees charged by airlines, leaving passengers with sticker shock at the end of their booking process. While the Biden-Harris administration has been pushing for transparency in pricing and elimination of “junk fees,” airlines continue to profit from these hidden charges, often exceeding the initial flight cost.

The study analyzed 80 airlines worldwide, including both budget carriers and legacy airlines, comparing their pricing for short-haul flights. It found that Spirit Airlines topped the list with hidden fees equaling a shocking 736% of their initial $21.89 flight cost. These fees included charges for baggage, seat selection, and onboard amenities. Frontier Airlines came in a close second at 626% of their initial $13.13 flight cost.

While budget airlines dominated the top of the list, legacy airlines weren’t immune either. Delta Air Lines had hidden fees amounting to 158% of their $55 initial flight cost, while JetBlue charged 147% and United Airlines 122% in additional fees.

These hidden fees, often for seemingly minor extras like seat selection or checked baggage, can add up quickly, leaving passengers feeling frustrated and misled. The study highlights the need for greater transparency in airline pricing, allowing passengers to make informed decisions before booking.

While the Biden administration has proposed regulations to address these issues, the implementation of these rules has been slow. As airlines continue to capitalize on hidden fees, the pressure for action from both consumers and regulators is mounting.
