Mon Sep 09 16:13:28 UTC 2024: ## Tesla Autopilot Workers Allege Surveillance and Strict Performance Monitoring at Buffalo Facility

A Tesla Autopilot worker, who requested anonymity to protect their employment, has revealed concerns about the company’s intense surveillance and performance monitoring practices at its Buffalo, New York facility.

According to an interview with Business Insider, employees are tasked with labeling hours of footage from Tesla’s vehicles to train Autopilot, a feature that aims to provide assisted driving capabilities. While the workers are paid a modest $20 per hour, they face constant scrutiny.

Tesla utilizes a system called Flide Time to track employees’ productivity. The software monitors keystrokes and clicks within the video labeling software, sending alerts to supervisors if workers are not actively working. This system has led to employees being called into disciplinary meetings for spending even a few minutes away from Flide Time, even for reasons like using the restroom.

The worker described the environment as “dystopian” and likened the employees to “worker ants.” The constant monitoring, combined with the psychological impact of reviewing hours of driving footage, has eroded their faith in Tesla.

This revelation adds to previous reports highlighting the challenging working conditions for Autopilot workers, raising concerns about employee well-being and the ethical implications of such intense surveillance within the workplace.
