Tue Sep 10 23:19:54 UTC 2024: ## Sony Unveils PS5 Pro: A More Powerful Console for Enhanced Gaming

**San Francisco, CA** – After months of speculation, Sony has officially announced the PS5 Pro, a more powerful version of its popular console. The new console, which launches on November 7th for $699.99, boasts significant hardware upgrades, including a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing capabilities, and custom AI-driven upscaling technology.

“It’s the most powerful console we’ve ever built,” stated Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS5 console. The PS5 Pro delivers 45% faster rendering, enabling players to experience enhanced visual fidelity and frame rates without sacrificing performance.

Sony has significantly upgraded the GPU in the PS5 Pro, offering 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory compared to the original PS5. This translates to smoother gameplay and improved graphics, including enhanced ray tracing for even more realistic lighting and shadows.

The PS5 Pro also introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), a custom AI-powered upscaling technology similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR. PSSR aims to enhance frame rates and image quality by replacing existing temporal anti-aliasing or upsampling implementations in games.

Cerny showcased games running on the PS5 Pro, including “The Last of Us Part II,” which now boasts more detail while maintaining a 60fps frame rate. This enhanced performance is expected to be available in upcoming titles such as “Spider-Man 2” and “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.”

The PS5 Pro also introduces “Game Boost,” a feature designed to improve performance in over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games. Additionally, the console supports Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, VRR, and 8K resolutions.

CNET’s Scott Stein, who got an early hands-on with the console, reports that the PS5 Pro features a larger 2TB solid-state drive and a USB-C port instead of one of the rear USB-A ports. The console still includes an extra SSD slot for expansion.

A number of games will be enhanced for the PS5 Pro, with Sony noting that developers are working on free software updates for existing titles. These “PS5 Pro Enhanced” games will offer enhanced visual fidelity and performance. Over 50 titles are expected to be available by the console’s launch.

The PS5 Pro will be compatible with PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, and existing PS5 controllers. Preorders will begin on September 26th, with the console hitting retail shelves on November 7th.
