Tue Sep 10 18:22:44 UTC 2024: ## Government Talks Continue on Land Hoarding Tax

**Dublin, Ireland -** Discussions are ongoing within the Irish government regarding the introduction of a land hoarding tax. This follows recent disagreements about the potential delay of the tax, which would impact undeveloped land.

The Green Party, a member of the ruling coalition, expressed concern about reported delays, claiming they were “blindsided” by the news and calling for the tax to be included in this year’s budget.

However, Finance Minister Jack Chambers, in a meeting with party leaders, highlighted plans to ensure that active farmers working zoned land are exempt from the Residential Zoned Land Tax (RZLT).

While there is a consensus that land hoarding should be addressed, the government is aiming to find a compromise that avoids burdening farmers. Further proposals are expected to be presented to party leaders before the budget announcement.

A spokesperson for the Green Party stated that discussions are ongoing and a solution is being sought. While a final decision has not yet been made, the party is hopeful that negotiations will conclude soon and the tax will be implemented in February 2025.
