**Paris, France** – In a major shakeup for the fashion world, Givenchy has announced the appointment of renowned British designer Sarah Burton as its new Creative Director. Effective immediately, Burton, who is best known for her work at Alexander McQueen, will helm the French fashion house, bringing her distinctive vision and craftsmanship to the iconic brand.
Burton, who spent 26 years at Alexander McQueen, most notably serving as Creative Director following the passing of the brand’s founder in 2010, has a strong reputation for innovative and timeless design. She is perhaps best known for creating the iconic wedding dress worn by Kate, Princess of Wales, for her wedding to Prince William in 2011. Her contributions to the British fashion industry have been recognized with the Order of the British Empire.
Givenchy CEO Alessandro Valenti expressed his enthusiasm for Burton’s appointment, stating, “Her remarkable career path and creative vision have already won her a vast fan base, and we are certain that under her direction, Givenchy will continue to innovate and captivate an extensive audience across the world stage.”
Burton, who was born in Manchester and graduated from Central Saint Martins, expressed her excitement to “write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house” and bring her own unique sensibilities to Givenchy.
The appointment follows the departure of American designer Matthew Williams, who left the position in December after a three-year stint.
Burton’s first collection for Givenchy will be unveiled in March 2025, and the fashion world eagerly awaits the creative direction she will bring to the storied brand.
