**OSLO, NORWAY** – A golden eagle has been responsible for a series of attacks on humans in Norway, leaving a toddler with stitches and three adults injured, sparking concerns about the bird’s unusual behavior.
The most serious incident occurred on Saturday when the eagle attacked a 20-month-old girl playing outside a farm. The child’s mother and a neighbor intervened, striking the bird with a piece of wood until it died. The toddler sustained scratches and received stitches.
Eagle expert Alv Ottar Folkestad believes the same bird is responsible for three other attacks over a five-day period, citing unique plumage patterns. He suspects the eagle has a “behavioral disorder” that led to the aggressive attacks, which are uncharacteristic for the species.
One of the attacks, on Thursday, saw the eagle repeatedly assault cyclist and hiker Francis Ari Sture, who sustained a gash near his eye. The bird attacked Sture six times for 10-15 minutes, despite his attempts to defend himself with his backpack and kick it away.
Another attack, captured on camera, occurred on Wednesday when the eagle attacked hiker Mariann Myrvang. Her husband drove the bird off using a branch.
Golden eagles typically prey on smaller animals, including foxes and sheep, not humans. This series of attacks has raised alarm about the eagle’s behavior and prompted local authorities to investigate.
