**Longview, TX -** The Pine Tree Pirates soared to victory against the Van Vandals in a thrilling 36-30 win on Friday, securing their second win of the season and earning a spot in the 4A Division I rankings. The Pirates’ success was fueled by standout performances from quarterback Matt Cates and offensive lineman Peyton Davis, both of whom have earned accolades for their exceptional play.
Cates, a returning all-district quarterback, continued his impressive form, completing 14 of 19 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns. His standout performance included a 69-yard scoring strike to Jordan Taylor in the third quarter.
Davis, a key offensive lineman for the Pirates, played a crucial role on both sides of the ball.
