Tue Sep 10 15:22:59 UTC 2024: ## Opposition Party President Released After Arrest in Pakistan

**ISLAMABAD** – Gohar Khan, president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been released by Pakistani police after being detained outside parliament on Tuesday. Khan, who is not related to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was arrested alongside several other PTI leaders while demanding the release of their imprisoned former leader.

The arrest was met with immediate condemnation from the PTI, who denounced it as an attack on parliament. Khan himself called for an investigation into the incident by the National Assembly speaker.

While Gohar Khan has been released, 12 other PTI leaders remain in police custody. The party has vowed to continue their campaign for Imran Khan’s release, who was imprisoned last year following a conviction in a graft case.

Despite his ouster in 2022 and imprisonment, Imran Khan remains a popular figure in Pakistani politics. The PTI’s continued efforts to secure his release are seen as a sign of the ongoing political turmoil in the country.
