Tue Sep 10 18:37:00 UTC 2024: ## Oasis Academy Volleyball Team Starts Season with Mixed Results
The Oasis Academy volleyball team has had a bumpy start to the Northern 2A season, currently holding a 1-3 record. After a tough loss to Pershing County, the Bighorns earned their first win with a sweep over Silver Stage. However, they faced defeats against Battle Mountain and West Wendover last week.
Despite the losses, individual players have shone. Reese Laca led the team with six assists against Silver Stage and added another four against Battle Mountain. Grace Laca had a strong showing with six digs and five aces against Silver Stage, followed by Kaylin Guthrie with a team-high five aces. The team is looking forward to home games against Coral Academy and North Tahoe this week before heading to Yerington on Saturday.
In other news, the Oasis Academy cross country team kicked off its season at the Douglas Class Races. Leonidas Arcoraci led the sophomore boys, while Beatriz Hallberg topped the junior girls. The team competed in the North Tahoe Madman Mills Mountain Motivational last Saturday, with Arcoraci finishing first for the Bighorns.
