**INDIANAPOLIS** – The Houston Texans kicked off their season with a hard-fought 29-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, showcasing the impact of their offseason acquisitions.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud led the Texans offense with 234 passing yards, while new additions Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon proved instrumental in securing the win. Diggs hauled in two touchdown passes, including a crucial 2-yard reception on fourth-and-goal with 4:42 remaining. Mixon dominated on the ground, rushing for a career-high 30 attempts and a game-high 159 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
“Those guys go out and make plays no matter what the situation is,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said of the dynamic duo. “It’s huge for our team.”
The Colts, plagued by their ongoing opening-day woes, extended their longest active opening-day winless streak to three years. Despite a valiant effort from rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, who threw for two touchdowns over 50 yards and ran for a touchdown, the Colts’ defense couldn’t get the ball back to their young signal-caller in the closing minutes.
The Texans’ victory was further fueled by a standout performance from receiver Nico Collins, who recorded his third consecutive strong game against the Colts with six catches for 117 yards.
The game was filled with dramatic moments and a controversial review in the first half that left the Texans with a potential missed scoring opportunity. However, the Texans’ resilience and the brilliance of their new offensive weapons proved too much for the Colts to overcome.
The Texans will host the Chicago Bears next Sunday night, while the Colts will travel to Green Bay for their Week 2 matchup.
