**NEW YORK –** Renowned conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson has been appointed as the new music director of the Kyiv Camerata, a prominent Ukrainian chamber orchestra. This follows the passing of the orchestra’s founder, Valery Matyukhin, last year.
Wilson, a 57-year-old Canadian-Ukrainian, has a distinguished international career, having conducted at prestigious venues like the Royal Opera House in London, the Vienna State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She also founded the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra in response to the Russian invasion, highlighting her commitment to Ukrainian culture and resilience.
“We shall be performing for Ukraine’s brave and discerning audiences and defending Ukraine’s cultural identity from those who wish to deny it,” Wilson stated.
This appointment comes as Wilson prepares for her debuts with the New York Philharmonic and Berlin’s Staatsoper unter den Linden this season. Her leadership of the Kyiv Camerata promises to further elevate the orchestra’s profile and contribute to the preservation of Ukrainian artistic heritage during these challenging times.
