**Jeanerette, LA** – First Church of God In Christ is celebrating 48 years of serving the Jeanerette community, and Revs. James and Ezora Proctor remain dedicated to providing spiritual and physical resources to its residents.
Established in 1976, the church has been a vital force in the community, offering programs like the School Tutorial Program, which boasts a 98% success rate in keeping enrolled students on the honor roll. The program also includes a summer enrichment program to help students stay ahead of the curve.
First Church of God In Christ is also known for its “Love Me Program,” which focuses on building self-esteem and good character among young people. The program has been utilized by local school officials and the city judge to support students in need.
The church is actively involved in community outreach, operating a Food Pantry for 25 years, aiding victims of fires and natural disasters, and partnering with the annual FoodNet for Families program to serve over 200 families each month.
Rev. James Proctor emphasizes the importance of community collaboration, noting that the late Mayor Arthur Verret played a key role in establishing the church as a drop-off point for the Channel 10 FoodNet program.
More recent initiatives include the Louisiana Youth for Excellence Program, spearheaded by Rev. Ezora Proctor, and a Diabetes Prevention and Blood Pressure Control Program, focusing on health education and prevention.
Revs. James and Ezora Proctor reiterate their commitment to uplifting the community, stating, “Our goal is to touch as many people as possible in the community to assure a better community for all people.”
First Church of God In Christ continues to be a beacon of hope and support for the Jeanerette community, serving as a testament to the Proctors’ enduring dedication to its well-being.
