The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards are just around the corner, with the ceremony scheduled for September 15th at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET at the Peacock Theatre at L.A. LIVE. This year’s awards will see several changes, particularly in the short-form programming categories.
The Television Academy has announced the elimination of the short-form animated program category, merging it with the animated program category and creating two tracks: one for short-form programs and another for longer programming. This decision comes in response to a decrease in submissions in recent years.
Further changes include the merging of the short-form performer categories. Actors and actresses in short-form comedy or drama series will now compete in a single category, “Outstanding Performer in a Short-Form Comedy or Drama Series.” This streamlining aims to adapt to the evolving landscape of television content.
Despite the challenges faced by the industry last summer due to strikes, Television Academy chair Cris Abrego highlighted the abundance of outstanding programs, performances, and impactful storytelling. The Emmys will celebrate excellence across all fields, acknowledging the contributions of those who make great television possible.
The awards ceremony will be broadcast on ABC for viewers in the United States.
