Esmeralda Mora, Pro Bono and Administrative Coordinator for Central Washington Legal Aid (CWLA), is making a significant impact on the Yakima community. CWLA provides free legal advice and representation to low-income families, assisting them with matters such as housing, family law, and other civil legal needs.
Mora’s role involves connecting volunteer attorneys with individuals seeking legal assistance and coordinating legal clinics throughout the region. “Esmeralda has positively impacted our community by breaking barriers to access to justice,” said Jessica Mendez, one of Mora’s coworkers. “She and her team help hundreds of families per year.”
In a recent interview, Mora highlighted her passion for the work. “CWLA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the most vulnerable in our community. We have compassion for people and a self-sacrificing spirit,” she said. Mora’s commitment to community outreach is evident in her collaboration with various organizations, such as the YWCA and Yakima libraries, to provide accessible legal resources.
Prior to joining CWLA, Mora worked in the dental field and as a project manager. Her experience and passion for helping others led her to the nonprofit sector, where she finds fulfillment in making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
“I see that the work that I do really makes a difference,” Mora expressed. “Working in this capacity gives me a great measure of joy.”
Mora’s dedication to serving the Yakima community exemplifies the positive impact of nonprofits like CWLA. By connecting legal resources with those who need them most, she ensures that individuals have access to justice and a fighting chance to achieve stability and well-being.
