**SEATTLE, WA** – Boeing announced Tuesday that it delivered 40 commercial jets in August, a 5-jet increase compared to the same month last year. This rise in deliveries comes as the company works to ramp up production of its popular 737 MAX under new CEO Kelly Ortberg.
Boeing aims to reach a production rate of 38 MAX jets per month by the end of the year. However, the company faces challenges including a potential strike by over 32,000 workers in Seattle and Portland. The strike vote is scheduled for September 12th.
Boeing’s production has been slowed down since a January incident involving a 737 MAX 9 jet, leading to increased regulatory scrutiny. Despite this, the company delivered 32 MAX jets in August, including a notable 9 deliveries to customers in China.
While Boeing delivered 43 jets in July, including 31 MAX models, investors are closely monitoring delivery numbers as they represent a significant portion of Boeing’s revenue. The company also reported adjusted net orders of 24 for August, bringing the total for the year to 250. After accounting for cancellations and conversions, the net order total stands at 207.
Boeing has delivered a total of 258 airplanes this year, including 198 MAX jets. This figure contrasts with European rival Airbus, which reported delivery of 47 aircraft in August, down from 77 in July. Airbus has delivered a total of 447 aircraft this year.
