Mon Sep 09 15:10:44 UTC 2024: ## BBC Accused of Systematic Bias in Favor of Hamas During Gaza War
An independent review has accused the BBC of systematically downplaying Hamas terrorism and portraying Israel as a pariah state in its coverage of the recent Gaza war. The study, led by British lawyer Trevor Asserson, found 1,553 instances where the BBC breached its own journalistic guidelines on impartiality, fairness, and truthfulness during the four months following Hamas’s October 7 terror attack.
The review revealed a disturbing pattern of bias, with Israel being associated with genocide over 14 times more frequently than Hamas in the BBC’s reporting. This bias was particularly evident in the BBC Arabic branch, which was identified as one of the most biased global media outlets in its coverage of the conflict.
The report highlighted numerous instances of BBC journalists displaying sympathy for Hamas and even celebrating its terrorist acts. One contributor, Mayssaa Abdul Khalek, has called for death to Israel and expressed admiration for Hitler. Another contributor, Marie-Jose Al Azzi, has labeled Israel a terrorist apartheid state.
The BBC’s coverage of the Gaza war has come under intense scrutiny, with critics accusing the outlet of uncritically disseminating propaganda and painting Israel as the aggressor. Former BBC executive Danny Cohen has even stated that the BBC is facing an institutional crisis due to its biased reporting.
These accusations add to the growing concerns about the BBC’s impartiality and raise questions about the organization’s commitment to journalistic integrity.
