Tue Sep 10 18:37:56 UTC 2024: ## ICPC Chairman Calls for Attitudinal Change to Fight Corruption

**Abuja, Nigeria** – The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Aliyu, SAN, has stressed the importance of attitudinal change among citizens to effectively combat corruption in Nigeria.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ review roundtable on the implementation of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy (NEIP) and the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) in Abuja, Dr Aliyu described corruption as a deeply rooted problem hindering national development.

He emphasized the need to assess the effectiveness of both the NEIP and the EICS, which aim to foster moral renewal and evaluate anti-corruption efforts, respectively. “It is crucial to convene this roundtable so that we can review, evaluate, and re-strategize our approach for increased positive impact,” he stated.

Dr Aliyu urged for a shift towards an anti-corruption mindset to overcome national and institutional challenges.

Echoing this sentiment, the General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Apostle Samson Fatokun, expressed concern over the high level of moral decadence in the country. He urged the ICPC to target the fight against corruption from the top down, starting with leadership.

“Let us start from the top,” he appealed. “If we want to do ethical purging of Nigeria, it should be from the top to the grassroots.”

The ICPC’s focus on attitudinal change and the call for leadership accountability highlight the complex nature of tackling corruption in Nigeria. It remains to be seen how the commission’s initiatives will be implemented and what impact they will have on combating this endemic issue.
