**Cairo, Egypt:** The 162nd session of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers commenced on Tuesday, focusing heavily on the ongoing conflict in Palestine. The agenda featured discussions on halting Israeli aggression against Gaza and the West Bank, with ministers condemning the “war crimes” committed against Palestinians. The Council called for swift action from the International Criminal Court (ICC), including issuing arrest warrants for Israeli leaders.
The Council also reiterated its support for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and discussed ways to revive the Arab Peace Initiative. The meeting tackled various issues, including Israeli water theft, the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, and ongoing conflicts in Arab countries like Libya, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia.
A key focus was on the threats posed by Israeli armament and the need for a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East. The ministers also discussed social issues, human rights, economic matters, national security, and combating terrorism.
On the sidelines of the session, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya met with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip.
The session saw the participation of several international figures including Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, EU High Representative Josep Borrell, and UN Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag.
