Tue Sep 10 15:17:00 UTC 2024: ## Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Attack on Russia, Killing One, Injuring Eight
**Moscow, Russia (AP)** – In one of the largest drone attacks on Russian soil since the start of the war, over 140 Ukrainian drones targeted multiple regions across Russia overnight, including Moscow and surrounding areas. The attack resulted in at least one fatality and eight injuries, according to Russian officials.
A woman was killed in the town of Ramenskoye, just outside Moscow, where drones hit two multi-story residential buildings and sparked fires. Five residential buildings were evacuated due to falling drone debris.
The attack also forced the closure of three major airports near Moscow, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky, leading to the diversion of 48 flights. While Vnukovo and Domodedovo reopened later in the morning, Zhukovsky remained closed as law enforcement dealt with drone debris.
This marks the second massive Ukrainian drone attack on Russia this month. On September 1, the Russian military intercepted 158 Ukrainian drones across more than a dozen Russian regions, prompting Russian authorities to open a criminal investigation into the incident as a “terror attack.”
Ukraine has been increasingly using drone attacks to disrupt Russian military operations, hinder its society, and provoke the Kremlin. While Ukraine has requested more powerful weapons from its Western partners, they claim the support provided falls short of their military needs and often arrives too late.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to bombard Ukraine with missiles, glide bombs, and its own drones, causing the deaths of over 10,000 civilians, according to the United Nations.
