Sat Sep 07 23:36:55 UTC 2024: ## Penn State Safety Kevin Winston Jr. Exits Game with Injury

**State College, PA** – Penn State suffered a potential blow to their defense on Saturday as star safety and captain Kevin Winston Jr. left the game against Bowling Green in the second quarter with an apparent injury.

Winston, who was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against West Virginia, left the field after making a tackle on Falcon tight end Harold Fannin Jr. He remained on the sideline in uniform but did not return to action.

Head coach James Franklin declined to provide details on the nature of Winston’s injury, stating, “I don’t talk about those things.”

Winston’s absence could be a significant concern for the Nittany Lions. The junior safety is considered one of the top defensive players in the nation and a potential early-round NFL Draft pick.

In Winston’s absence, senior Jaylen Reed stepped up, playing more of a traditional safety role after operating in a hybrid position. Reed, who finished the game with 10 tackles, expressed confidence in his ability to fill the void.

“When you’ve got a guy like KJ Winston, a big part of the team, it’s gonna always be a factor,” said Reed. “But it’s time for the other guy to step up.”

The Nittany Lions ultimately overcame the setback, defeating Bowling Green 34-27. However, the extent of Winston’s injury and his potential return date remains unknown.
