**Kohima:** Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has announced a slew of measures to honor Hokato Hotozhe Sema, who won a bronze medal in the Shot-Put 557 category at the Paris Paralympic Games 2024, becoming the first athlete from the state to achieve a medal at either the Olympics or Paralympics.
In a statement on social media platform X, Rio lauded Sema’s achievement, saying, “We’re proud & joyous for Mr. Hokato Hotozhe Sema …… He’s made India proud & Nagaland shine.”
The state government will present Sema with a cash reward of ₹ 1.5 crore, and recommend his name to the Government of India for the prestigious Arjuna Award. Rio also pledged to work with the Indian Army and Ministry of Defense to facilitate Sema’s promotion, recognizing his exceptional athletic achievements and service to the nation.
Further, the Chief Minister stated that the government will initiate a series of measures aimed at promoting sports in the state, under the banner of Hokato Hotozhe Sema’s name. This initiative aims to inspire future generations and encourage sports development within Nagaland.
Sema’s historic achievement has garnered widespread praise, with the President, Prime Minister, Governor, and Chief Minister of Nagaland extending their congratulations. His victory is a testament to his dedication and hard work, and serves as a source of pride for both Nagaland and India.
