Sun Sep 08 12:16:30 UTC 2024: ## Fresh Violence Erupts in Manipur, Killing Six

**Imphal, India:** Six people were killed in renewed clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur on Saturday. The violence, the latest in a series of outbreaks since last year, highlights the deep divisions between the two ethnic groups.

The current conflict stems from a court ruling that extended special economic benefits and quotas in jobs and education to the Meiteis, a move that angered the Kuki community.

In response to the escalating situation, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met with coalition government legislators and briefed Governor L. Acharya on the state of law and order.

Since the initial outbreak of violence, over 225 people have been killed and approximately 60,000 displaced. The situation remains tense, with the government working to restore peace and order in the troubled region.
