Sun Sep 08 10:42:45 UTC 2024: ## India Concludes Successful Paris Paralympic Games with 29 Medals
**Paris, France:** India concluded its participation in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games on Sunday, ending with a remarkable haul of 29 medals – seven gold, nine silver, and thirteen bronze. This performance marks India’s most successful Paralympic campaign to date, propelling them to 18th place in the overall medal standings.
The final medal was secured by Navdeep Singh, who clinched gold in the men’s javelin throw F41 classification after a controversial disqualification of Iranian athlete Sadegh Beit Sayah. The gold medal was initially awarded to Singh for his impressive 47.32m throw, which surpassed the world record holder, Sun Pengxiang of China. However, Sayah’s repeated display of an objectionable flag led to his disqualification, promoting Singh to the top spot.
Simran, accompanied by her guide Abhay Singh, also secured a bronze medal in the women’s 200m (T12) event, setting a personal best time of 24.75 seconds. This medal served as redemption for Simran, who had finished fourth in the 100m competition earlier in the Games.
India’s performance in Paris surpassed many top nations, including Switzerland, Belgium, South Korea, Turkey, and Argentina. While traditional Paralympic powerhouses like China, Great Britain, USA, and Italy maintained their dominance, India’s impressive showing has set the stage for an even stronger performance at the 2028 LA Para Games.
Track and field proved to be a major contributor to India’s success, securing 17 medals, including four gold. The team’s strong performance showcases the growing strength of Indian para-athletes on the world stage.
