Sat Sep 07 22:48:35 UTC 2024: ## Rainy Weekend Ahead, Luteran Takes Silver at Paralympics

Charleston, SC – Expect a wet weekend in Charleston, with periods of rain throughout the day and into the night. The high for Saturday will reach 74 degrees Fahrenheit, with a 90% chance of rain and an expected rainfall of half an inch. Winds will be from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Showers will continue overnight with a low of 66 degrees and a 70% chance of rain. Winds will shift to the north-northeast, remaining at 5 to 10 mph.

Meanwhile, former Nebraska Cornhusker track standout Petra Luteran concluded her participation in the Paris Paralympics on Saturday. Though she narrowly missed qualifying for the finals in the women’s 200-meter dash, Luteran left Paris with a silver medal, earned in the women’s long jump on Friday. Luteran achieved personal bests in all three events she competed in, including the 400m, long jump, and 200m.

Luteran’s journey to the Paralympics is particularly inspiring. Following her graduation from Nebraska in 2020, she suffered a severe ATV accident that resulted in the amputation of her left arm below the elbow. Despite this devastating injury, Luteran persevered and returned to the track, competing in the 400m, 200m, 100m, and long jump. Her silver medal win in Paris is a testament to her incredible strength and determination.

The Paralympics officially conclude on Sunday.
