Sun Sep 08 12:16:43 UTC 2024: ## Moeen Ali Retires From International Cricket After Stellar Career
**LONDON -** England all-rounder Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket, bringing an end to a remarkable career that spanned 298 matches. The 37-year-old, who last played for England in the 2024 T20 World Cup, cited the team’s need for a fresh start and the arrival of a new generation of players as his reasons for stepping away.
“I’ve played a lot of cricket for England. It’s time for the next generation,” said Ali, acknowledging that he was not selected for the upcoming Australia series. “I could hold on and try to play for England again, but I know in reality I won’t. Even retiring, I don’t feel it’s because I’m not good enough — I still feel I can play.”
Ali, known for his versatile skills, made his international debut in 2014 against West Indies. He amassed 6,678 runs and took 366 wickets across all formats, contributing significantly to England’s triumphs in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
His prowess with the ball, particularly in Test cricket, saw him rise to become England’s leading spinner, claiming 204 wickets, placing him third on the all-time list behind Derek Underwood and Graeme Swann.
Moeen Ali’s retirement marks the end of an era for England cricket. He leaves behind a legacy of impactful performances and a loyal service to his country.
