**Guwahati, [Date]** – The Assam government has announced its commitment to implement 52 recommendations of the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, aimed at protecting the interests of indigenous Assamese people. These recommendations will be implemented by April 15th, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma stated that the implementation of the committee’s recommendations will be categorized into three phases. 52 recommendations will be directly implemented by the state government, five will be implemented jointly by the state and central governments, and the remaining fall under the central government’s purview.

Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, signed in 1985, is a crucial provision that aims to safeguard the cultural, social, and linguistic identity of the Assamese people. The Assam Accord, an agreement between the Indian government and leaders of the Assam movement, sought to address the issue of illegal immigration into Assam from neighboring countries, particularly Bangladesh.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state cabinet had approved the implementation of 57 out of 67 recommendations made by the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee. The cabinet extensively discussed the various recommendations made by the panel to protect and secure the land, language, and culture of Assam’s indigenous population.

This move is expected to bring a sense of reassurance to the indigenous Assamese community, reaffirming the government’s commitment to their welfare and cultural preservation.
