Sun Sep 08 02:18:40 UTC 2024: – Central Health Ministry has approved a new, shorter and more effective treatment regimen for drug-resistant TB in India.
– The new treatment regimen uses a combination of four drugs – bedaquiline, pretomanid, linezolid, and moxifloxacin.
– The new regimen has been found to be safer, more effective, and quicker compared to the previous MDR-TB treatment process.
– The Ministry stated that the new regimen can cure drug-resistant TB in just six months, compared to the 20-month long treatment process.
– This new treatment option will benefit around 75,000 drug-resistant TB patients in India and will also reduce the cost of medication for patients.
