– The central cabinet had set a target of building three crore PM houses across the country, with Jharkhand being included in this target.
– A target of building 113195 houses has been given to the state government, with priority given to districts like Palamu, Garhwa, Giridih, and Ranchi.
– The rural development department will start the selection process for eligible beneficiaries, with each beneficiary receiving a grant of two lakh rupees for housing construction.
– The Jharkhand government had prepared a list of nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries who do not have a permanent house and submitted it to the central government in 2020-21.
– The central government reviewed the list, removed two lakh ineligible beneficiaries, and demanded housing for the remaining eight lakh beneficiaries after completion of pending houses.
– Chief Minister Hemant Soren criticized the central government for neglecting the poor in housing schemes and started the ABU housing scheme, with a budget of two lakh rupees for constructing a three-room house.
– Initially, eight lakh beneficiaries were selected under the ABU housing scheme, with two lakh houses allocated later, and the target has now been raised to 20 lakh houses.
– The central government has also approved housing under the PM Awas Yojana.
